Post Legal Adoption Services

Please Note: CAS of PA no longer offers adoption services. No information on previous foster care clients is available as all foster care records have been destroyed.

CAS of PA offers Post Legal Adoption Services to families and individuals that used its adoption services in the past or were adopted through CAS of PA. Services offered are information and referral and background summaries of non-identifying information prepared in accordance with the Pennsylvania Adoption Law. These services are provided for limited hours weekly. CAS of PA does not provide search services. Adoptees who are requesting a search can contact the county court where their adoption was finalized.

Requests for Non-Identifying Information

An adoptee, at least 18 years of age, or if under the age of 18 with the written consent of his/her adoptive parents, can petition the court, or request directly from the agency that handled the adoption, non-identifying background information. Generally what is included in a background summary is the following: ages of birth parents at the time of adoptee's birth, religion, ancestry, physical description, interests and hobbies, reported family medical history, reasons for adoption placement, and birth and early placement history of adoptee. CAS of PA does not release any names from the record. This includes, but is not limited to, first or last names, name of hospital where born, schools, city and state of residence. No information can be released that might reveal the identity of the birth family. CAS of PA has the sole discretion in determining what is considered non-identifying. There is a fee of $150.00 for this summary.
